Snow flurries to 300m about Wellington and Wairarapa, down to 500m in the ranges behind Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. Early wintry showers and snow flurries to low levels about Christchurch and the Kaikoura Coast clear in the morning, sunny breaks then increase with cold southwesterlies dying out in the evening. Sunny areas increase in Southland and all other eastern areas of the South Island from morning with cold west to southwesterly winds easing. Frosty at night. Sunny in Nelson and Blenheim with light winds, frosty morning and night.
